Higher Institute of Mines and Geology of de Boké (ISMGB)

In recent years, the Higher Institute of Boké Mines and Geology (ISMGB) of Guinea has partnered with the Centre for International Study and Cooperation (CECI) as part of a project to build the capacity of its teaching staff to better equip its graduate students.

Two members of the 3S&E Network, Yvon Courchesne and Jean-Marc Lajoie, carried out a first mission to Boké in November and December 2019. The main objective of this mission was to identify the need to enhance the current program and assess the capacity of the 3S&E Network to provide the ISMGB with the support it needs to meet its objectives of upgrading its university program. To carry out the mandate, several activities were carried out: multiple meetings and discussions with the Institute’s management and professors, interviews, focus groups, review of curricula and teaching materials, field visits. The findings were numerous and confirmed the relevance of 3S&E Network involvement in the continuation of this project.

In addition to this initial diagnosis, concrete actions were also carried out by the members of the 3S&E Network. This is how our volunteers participated in lectures as guest speakers on topics such as project management, occupational health, safety and health and atmospheric dispersion modelling and mine impact studies. A virtual site was also established to initiate and facilitate the sharing of reference materials between 3S&E Network and ISMBG.
